Design

We believe our involvement and direction with each phase of your project, from site planning to design development to installation, is paramount to achieving the envisioned final product. Our process is seamless and efficient, and that ensures your project will be constructed properly with quality materials and workmanship.

Integrate

It is absolutely possible to create gardens and landscaped spaces that simultaneously provide a connected place for everyone and everything. At Grassroots, we work with our clients to promote an understanding that it is much easier to co-exist with our high mountain environment rather than to compete with it. We relish in the challenge to promote biodiversity as well as provide an outlet for artistic expression.

Thrive

The oxygen in each breath we take is produced exclusively by plants. And it is in outdoor spaces where we thrive. Our goal is to deliver an immersive, emotionally resonant design that promotes longevity, reciprocity and a feeling of connectedness to the natural world.

Jen Mann

Landscape Design

A native of Southern California, Jennifer Mann realized her attraction to flora and ecology several years after moving to Colorado where she earned her degree in Environmental Ecology and Botany from Western Colorado University in Gunnison, CO (1992). After immersing herself in long term sustainability programs for the local flora and fauna communities at Curecanti National Park in Gunnison, she continued to pursue her studies in ecology in part by identifying over 100 species of forbs and grasses of the San Juan Mountains.

After working in the field with several mentors in landscape design and installation, Jen decided to start her own company in 2003. This was a solo endeavor which was later joined by her husband (and stone mason), Tom. Furthering her skills in landscape design, Jen pursued and completed her degree from the Anna Gresham School of Landscape Design in 2008.

Jen continues to place high value on a continuing education and is always broadening her ideas and modes of application through workshops, webinars, and collaborations with others she admires in the the field of landscape design and ecology.

Tom Mann

Stonemason/designer

Tom honed his stonemasonry skills early in his career, learning alongside one of the best in the field—his father. For over a decade, he served as the lead mason at Stonehenge Masonry, overseeing 24-month projects in Telluride and the surrounding region. His unique blend of carpentry and masonry expertise, combined with his natural artistic talent in masonry, plays a vital role in shaping our landscape design/build approach.

With a strong design instinct and hands-on field experience, Tom seamlessly transitions designs from CAD to reality. Once the plans are on-site, he leads the layout and construction, executing each step with precision and practicality. As challenges arise, he finds effective solutions, delivering a finished product that we can all be proud of.
